Meet Sigmund, MHC’s New Therapy Dog

2020 is going to be a fun year for Mending Hearts Counseling. This is because Sigmund is now a part of the team! Sigmund, also known as Siggy, is 10-week old French Bulldog who will ultimately help clients who are struggling with anxiety and depression. He will not see clients until he has completed a lot of training. Once he receives all of his shots, Siggy will begin obedience training.

Good Citizen Canine Training

Once he completes a couple of rounds of that training, he will enter into another training called Good Citizen Canine training which will help him to walk through crowds, react calmly with other dogs, react appropriately to distraction, and more. He will then take a Good Citizen Canine test and if he passes that, he will move onto the next round of training via the American Kennel Club Therapy Dog program. Therapy dogs aren’t service dogs. Therapy dogs visit people in hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. They provide comfort and care to those who want their companionship. It will probably be late 2020 until you will start seeing more of Sigmund in the office.
